I started swing dancing here in Vancouver at Clark College in 2002. I already loved swing music. I grew up listening to classic jazz and big band music, played alto saxophone in my high school jazz band, and I still sing in a community jazz ensemble as an adult. So when I discovered swing dancing, I quickly fell in love, especially with Lindy Hop, the original swing dance style from the 1920s. However, I soon found myself wrapped up with growing a family and several businesses. Dancing was put on the backburner for a long time.

More than 20 years later, I found myself back at a social swing dance and quickly rediscovered my passion for this art form. I started dancing 4 to 5 nights a week, enrolling in countless classes, listening to live bands, traveling out of town for concerts and social dances, and attending Lindy Hop exchanges (conventions) with internationally renowned instructors and dancers. My passion for the music and the dance was alive and kicking!

When the former organizers of Wednesday swing dancing at Valiant Ballrom, Riverhouse Swing, decided to step down to pursue other ventures, I knew we couldn't let the ONLY swing dance in Vancouver come to an end. We decided to take the torch and run with it. We are so thankful for the community they built and for helping to make a smooth transition into this new era of swing dancing in Vancouver that we are calling Couve Swing.

Come dance with us and help build this community bigger and better than it's ever been. We hope to see you soon.

I've been a dancer since I was three years old, doing everything from ballet to jazz and tap. As I grew older, I got into theater, acting and dancing on stage. I took a break from dance and did martial arts for 8 years, but dance had always been my first love. I have always loved the swing era -- the music, the fashion, and the movies.

I really started getting into swing dancing during my senior year of high school, then took my first official swing class at Moorpark College 25 years ago. I ended up becoming a teaching assistant there for 10 years!

Since then, I've become a mom and started a career in property management, but I've kept dancing. Swing dancing is my passion and I want to share it with others and create a fun and loving community.
