Our weekly beginner lessons will focus on the basics of East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop. You might also learn a little Charleston! We plan to offer intermediate Lindy Hop lessons soon, and also hope to offer workshops for Balboa, Shag, and more in the future. We are always open to suggestions. Email us or find us at a dance if you want to share your ideas for how we can make Couve Swing even better!
You do NOT need to bring a partner to any of our beginner lessons, intermediate lessons, or social dances. During lessons, we will pair up leaders with followers, and then all dancers will frequently rotate partners so that you get a chance to meet more dancer partners and practice with a variety of people at different skill levels. If we ever offer a class or workshop that does require a partner, we'll make sure to clearly indicate that when you sign up.
Most swing dancers prefer to wear flat or low-heeled shoes with a leather or suede sole. As a beginner, just wear comfortable shoes that you feel good moving around in. Shoes with less tread on the bottom will help you move more easily. Your old pair of sneakers will do! We don't recommend wearing cowboy boots or shoes with heavy tread (too much grip) on the bottom. Tap shoes are not allowed on the dance floor.
Please email couveswing@gmail.com and let us know what you are looking for. We will do our best to connect you with a teacher who can meet your needs.
